Bodie Ghost Town

Gold was discovered in Bodie in 1859 and a town was establish shortly thereafter.  The mine operated until the early 1900s and at one point the city held a population of ten thousand.  Bodie is now a state park and is maintained as its was in 1960s.  This is the real old west as it was in the gun fighter days.  Bodie is located off of US 395 on CA 270 just south of Bridgeport.   On the  west side of Bridgeport is Twin Lakes.  Take the Twin Lakes Rd to a wonderful fishing lake tucked into a fantastic mountain setting.

Bridgeport has a few motels and restaurants.  There are additional choices  along 395 from Lee Vining  just to the south to  Topaz a short distance to the north.
