Colorado River National Recreational
Area
At the Grand Canyon the Colorado
flows west and empties into Lake Mead. After the Hoover
Dam, the Colorado River once again flows south
through the volcanic mountains of Nevada and
Arizona. This is also part of the Lake Mead
Recreational Area. There is an easy access to the river
at Willow Beach which is an offshoot of US Route 93
south of Hoover Dam. The irregular black volcanic rocks
that surround the rivers are starkly beautiful. Although
there is always a substantial water level, there is
little greenery along the banks.
