Devil's Postpiles

Devil's Postpiles National Monument is a down hill ride from Mammoth Lakes.   The Monument includes a unique formation of basalt pillars.   This is a special place where you can experience what it is like in the midst of the High Sierra without hiking.  The Postpiles lie in a wonderful valley surrounded by high mountain peaks.  The valley includes a number of waterfalls; the largest is the 100 foot Rainbow falls whose mist often displays a rainbow at its base.    There are wonderful meadows, streams for fishing, and campgrounds.  To get to Devil's Postpiles from US 395,  take Mammoth Lakes road, California Route 203.  Continue on 203 to reach Devil's Postpiles

At Red Meadows, there are cabins, a restaurant and a store. As an alternative you may choose to stay at Mammoth which has many motels and restaurants. We recommend staying at the Mammoth Mountain Ski Hotel.  For dinner, we recommend eating at Petra's.
