Tour of Desert & Southern California

Southern California has a highly varied environment.  Much of the state is rock strewn and filled with exciting scenery.   We first visited the Lower Desert in the 1960s when our grandmother wintered there.  The geology is dominated by the granite that was uplifted as the American continent moved west.  Another major factor is the faults that run up the state.  This tour brings you to a number of areas where the San Andres Fault has fractured the rock into strange shapes.   Then, the tour heads toward the California coast with its varied wild life.  It is a perfect tour to take in Spring when the flowers bloom.  The brilliant colors against a stark background enchants.  The tour follows portions  of Interstate Highways 15, 10 , 8  and then up the coast on 5.
